Cardinal Emmanuel Suhard, Archbishop of Paris from 1940-1949-which included the time of the Nazi occupation during World War II, had this comment about how one truly gives witness to his/her Christian faith: “To be a witness does not consist in engaging propaganda, not even in stirring people up, but in being a living mystery. It means to live in such a way that one’s life would not make sense if God did not exist.” (cited by Brian Jones in Second Guessing God)
