While Bob Merritt stresses the importance of establishing predictable rhythms, he does acknowledge that there are times when it’t appropriate to take a break. He states: “I’ve learned that I have to make time for things that I don’t have time for because that’s where God often shows up, that’s when surprises and adventures happen.”
Perhaps that’s because when routine becomes the norm, complacency takes root and we tend to develop set expectations regarding how God will reveal Himself, in sync with our status quo. In other words, we put God in a box.
An added payoff to having established rhythms is that the increased efficiency enables us to create space or margin in our lives for those random moments of blessing from God.
