Victor or victim?

By Dave Henning / May 23, 2012

When you reflect on your ministry downsizing or position loss, do you perceive yourself as an innocent victim of unchristian actions or behaviors?  Ann Spangler ( The Peace God Promises ) points out that even for people who find no fault in their own hearts, it’s not healthy to take on the role of victim for any appreciable length of time.

She quotes Miroslav Volf, himself the victim of abusive interrogations: “Remembering wrongs will forge an identity, but the identity may be that of a person imprisoned in his own past and condemned to repeat it.”

In Romans 8:37 Paul reminds us that, through Christ’s strength, we are victors: ” . . . in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”
