Bishop T. D. Jakes (Let It Go) posits that forgiveness is a big idea, as opposed to the destructive, small ideas of revenge and anger. We need to think big thoughts in order to effectively introduce and practice forgiveness so that we can begin to heal.
While we have experienced justifiable emotions such as hatred and anger as a result of our ministry downsizing or position loss, T. D. Jakes reminds us that “the reality is the poison of unquenched anger doesn’t infect the perpetrator but only incarcerates the victim. Unforgiveness denies the victim the possibility of parole and leaves them stuck in the prison of what was, incarcerating them in their trauma and relinquishing the chance to escape beyond the pain.”
Rather than neutralize our growth potential, we need to move toward freeedom through transformational growth in Jesus.
