God’s love and recess

By Dave Henning / June 12, 2012

When we are in our desert, Land Between transition period following our ministry downsizing or position loss, we may at times find it difficult to perceive or accept God’s grace and love.  We may tend to over-analyze or ruminate on our situation and circumstances, past and present.

According to T. D. Jakes, the solution is simple- we need to receive God’s love like a child receives recess.  Bishop Jakes notes: “Children don’t linger in the classroom, sulking and saying, ‘I can’t go outside and play today- I don’t deserve it.  I’m just a terrible kid who should just sit in the corner while everyone else has fun on the playground.’ ”

As a former primary and intermediate level teacher, I daily witnessed the unrestrained joy of play.  May we always receive God’s grace and love with such simple  joy!
