Overcoming bitterness

By Dave Henning / July 20, 2012

In Total Forgiveness, R. T. Kendall tells the story of how Nelson Mandela emerged from his 27 years of imprisonment without becoming bitter.  Nelson Mandela realized that bitterness would only hurt himself, and then revealed the key to overcoming his negativity:

“If you hate, you will give them your heart and mind.  Don’t give those two things away.”

But what if those involved in our ministry downsizing or position loss did not, from either a subjective or objective viewpoint, evidence Christ’s love and compassion in their actions?  Our greater witness is to keep our hearts and minds on Jesus, letting our response communicate our faith clearly to all.

Mark 12:30- “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”
