The Prince of Peace

“Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family.  So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers.” -Hebrews 2: 11

In Chapter 11 (“The Prince of Peace is Your Big Brother”) of You’ll Get Through This, Max Lucado tells the story of Matthew, a high school senior on the basketball team.  For this particular tournament game, Matthew is the designated free throw shooter, per prior arrangement.  With time running out, Matthew stands at the line, ready to attempt the first of two free throws.  So far, he is 0 for 6.  The coach, Matthew’s big brother, stands under the basket, tapping the rim with a stick.  Why?  Because Matthew is blind.  With his team down by 1 point, Matthew swishes both free throws for the win.

The sons of Jacob certainly needed the protection of a big brother when they came to Egypt for food.  To their amazement, they found one in Joseph.  We also need a Big Brother, Jesus, to walk with us during our desert, transformational time.  As Max concludes, wonderful things happen when Jesus helps out:

“You will get through this.  Not because you are strong but because your Brother is.  Not because you are good but because you Brother is.  Not because you are big, but because your Brother is the Prince, and he has prepared a place for you.”

Today’s question: How has Jesus shown His faithfulness during your desert, transformational time?  Please share.
