Today Charles Stanley presents the second (of three) reasons why the Lord gave us the ability to have feelings.
2. So we can meaningfully relate to others. Dr. Stanley notes that while many things such as religion and politics divide us, our emotions bind us together. Our emotions help us understand and connect to each other. God uses our common bond of brokenness, needs, and trials to reach the world with His good news of salvation.
Pastor Stanley adds that, whether we recognize it or not, we all yearn for acceptance and to be considered worthy, especially by God. God understands us completely and never will forsake us. That’s why we cultivate long-lasting relationships with those individuals we trust enough to share our most intimate thoughts and feelings with. The downside is that we often use those same emotions negatively to erect walls of opposition with those who have offended us, rather than seeking to understand them.
Dr. Stanley asserts that one of the reasons Jesus came to earth was so shat we could “reach into another’s deepest wounds and become His instrument of healing to them.” Jesus’ most important purpose was to reconcile us to the Father through the Cross.
