“Noah did everything just as God commanded him.”- Genesis 6:22
As Mark Batterson continues Chapter 10 of All In, he theorizes that Noah must have thought that God was kidding or crazy when He called Noah to build the ark. Because this calling was totally unprecedented, Noah didn’t even have a cognitive category for processing God’s calling.
Speaking personally, Pastor Batterson confesses that he wants God to reveal the second step before he takes the first step of faith. Yet, the author explains, if we don’t take the first step, God generally won’t reveal the next step:
“We’ve got to be obedient to the measure of revelation God has given us if we want more of it. And that’s why we get stuck spiritually. We want more revelation before we obey more, but God wants more obedience before He reveals more.”
Pastor Batterson adds that the African impala can jump ten feet high and thirty feet long. Yet, all zookeepers need is a three-foot wall to keep the impalas in their enclosures. Why? An impala won’t jump if it can’t see where it will land.
That’s often true of us as well. Pastor Batterson notes that we tend to follow Christ only to the point of precedence- to the place where we have been before. But looking for a money-back guarantee takes faith out of the equation. When we develop a spiritual hunger for unprecedented faith, we also get a taste of God’s favor.
