“View affects vision.”- Mark Batterson
“He [the Lord] took him [Abram] outside and said, ‘Look up at the heavens and count the stars- if indeed you can count them.”- Genesis 15:5
In Chapter 8 (“Field of Dreams”) of Chase the Lion, Mark Batterson informs us he lives by the following formula adopted for Summit Leaders by Joel Malm. That formula connects geography and spirituality: change of pace + change of place = change of perspective.
As a result, Pastor Batterson offers his thoughts regarding your dream- in the context of your calling:
“Your dream is more than a dream. It’s a calling. Sure, someone hired you and someone can fire you. But they didn’t call you. God did. And if you forget that fact, you forget why you do what you do and Who you do it for.”
Furthermore, Mark believes it’s helpful to revisit places where God’s proven Himself faithful. Not simply a walk down memory lane, these memories, Mark states, “fuel our faith and stoke our imagination.”
Most noteworthy, sometimes the way forward means looking backward. Winston Churchill once said, “The father backward you look, the father forward you can see.”
In contrast, Pastor Batterson notes, most dreams die due to the wrong timing- not because we have the wrong dream. However, what we interpret as a waiting period, in reality, turns out to be a grace period. Mark summarizes:
“More often than not, what we perceive as a no is really a not yet.”
Today’s question: How has Mark’s statement that “view affects vision” provided a fresh perspective on revitalizing your calling? Please share.
