“Your destiny predates you. Before you were even conceived, God had a script for your life.”- Mark Batterson
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.”- Jeremiah 1:5
In Chapter 15 (“Double Destiny”) of Chase the Lion, author Mark Batterson writes that the prophet Jeremiah’s words should fill us with a sense of destiny. Jeremiah describes our spiritual birthright. Consequently, God ordained our days, ordered our footsteps, and prepared good works in advance. This all before our conception.
Therefore, we must understand that God’s plan may or may not include our personal life plan. Mark explains:
“Just because something isn’t part of your life plan doesn’t mean it’s not part of God’s plan. God is working His good, pleasing, and perfect plan for your life in a thousand ways you aren’t even aware of. Everything in your life is preparation for something in your future. God wastes nothing.”
Fortunately, in His grace God usually downloads your dream in stages. Downloading your entire dream at one time tends to be overwhelming. However, not matter what we conceive of asking, His plans and purposes far exceed our finite wisdom. We can’t imagine the ways God wants to use us.
In conclusion, Mark notes that you have more than one destiny- (1) universal and (2) unique. In other words- a double destiny.
Hence, your universal destiny involves thinking, acting, living, and being like Christ. Your unique destiny, in contrast, testifies to the God who created you. You find your destiny by looking for God. Then, your destiny finds you.
