“Your dream doesn’t come alive without the help of other people. Make it a point to meet new people every day.”- Tom Eggebrecht
In Chapter 11 (“Don’t Do It Alone”) of Fully and Creatively Alive, Tom Eggebrecht states that when people work together in teams, creativity grows. Furthermore, a web of relationships develops.
Yet, even when working by yourself, the Lord is present. In addition, the Lord goes before you as well as behind you. The Lord pushes you forward. Also, He surrounds you with people who constantly encourage you.
However, we all experience failures and setbacks along the way. Larry Kloess (Cause A Scene) reflects that failures and setbacks most often happen when we:
- focus too much on ourselves and refuse to let others help or support us
- make our failures synonymous with catastrophes
- ignore little failures that pack major hurting power
Therefore, Larry defines ‘living the dream’ in the following terms. It means loving people well, making time for them, and achieving balance in life. Also, it’s important not to take yourself too seriously. In other words, generosity stands out. Being personable and willing to serve in unexpected ways draws people to you.
In conclusion, Pastor Eggebrecht lists and describes three elements of collaborative creativity:
- Experience: seasoned people know the right questions to ask and make specific suggestions.
- Wisdom: wise collaborators know the proper questions to raise and input to make. They accomplish tasks decently and in order while remaining grounded in specified goals.
- Fresh perspective: new contributors bring fresh questions as well as unique thoughts and insights to the table. These question, thoughts, and insights build on the wisdom and experience of others.
