A handbook for a healthy soul

“The Creator himself has given us a handbook for a healthy soul: the Bible.”- Judah Smith

“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God.”- 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NIV)

In Chapter 2 (“Original Home”) of How’s Your Soul?, Pastor Judah Smith opines that if we’re concerned about what’s healthy for our physical bodies, we’re even more confused about what’s healthy for our souls.  However, unlike the plethora of books and blogs about healthy diets, God provides one handbook for a healthy soul: the Bible.

When God created the world He placed humanity in an environment conducive to internal success.  In other words, God placed Adam and Eve in an optimal, thriving environment.

Therefore, as we examine what the Bible says about the original conditions God creased for the human soul, we discover a blueprint and plan to achieve soul health.  Judah believes the Bible describes four essential elements of the environment.  Of course, it’s possible to exist without those four elements.  But, they’re essential to thriving- even in the face of adversity.

Yet, its necessary we understand that sin wasn’t part of God’s original creation.  Why?  Pastor Smith explains that applying the four elements to our souls only works if we deal with the sin issue.  When we relate to God from a place of forgiveness and acceptance, we’re able to apply the four elements to our lives.  As a result, we experience the health and happiness God gives our souls.

Judah begins his description of the four essential elements for optimum soul health in the next blog.

Today’s question: What would you include in a handbook for a healthy soul?  Please share.
