Destiny . . . the customized life calling

By Dave Henning / February 18, 2017

“Destiny . . . the customized life calling for which God has equipped and ordained us, in order to bring Him the greatest glory and the maximum  expansion of His kingdom.”- Dr. Tony Evans

“Everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.”- Isaiah 43:7

Dr. Tony Evans, founder and senior pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas, recently published Detours: the Unpredictable Path to Your Destiny.   In the Introduction, Dr. Evans notes that  a plotlessness characterizes many of our lives.  We wander from one scene or circumstance to the next without purpose.  For example, we’re dying to marry, raise a family, and empty the nest.

However, when we retire, we discover we’re just dying.  Perhaps we’ve never know why we’re alive in the first place.

Therefore, Tony believes we’d think and act quite differently if we was God’s hand in the plots of our lives.  It would affect our emotions, choices, and outlook.  As a result, Dr. Evans notes, adding purpose to the mix of pain and patience gives you the:

  • ability to push on
  • ability to keep going when your get-up-and-go has gotten up and gone
  • strength to accept and face your fears, disappointments, and pain rather than seeking distractions to avoid them

Hence, the biblical principals of destiny take you from your current position to where God wants you to go.  In addition, your premiere destiny involves glorifying God and making His name known.  Dr. Evans concludes:

“Destiny . . . begins with the place of God integrating in our lives in such a way that people come into contact with Him through our words, spirit, emotions, or actions.  If you want to find your destiny- find God.  After all, He’s the author of it.”

Today’s question: How would you describe your customized life calling?  Please share.
