When Satan throws bricks at you

By Dave Henning / September 7, 2017

“When Satan throws bricks at you, let God use them to build his kingdom by tapping into heaven and letting God solve the problem.”- Os Hillman

In Chapter 12 (“Stage 5: Problem Solving”) of The Joseph Calling, Os Hillman describes problem-solving as a key component of the Joseph calling’s six stages.  The author explains:

“Once God has taken you through a process of maturity, then the fruit of the process often results in you solving some type of problem that ultimately gives you the authority in which God wants you to operate.”

Thus, when God instructs us to do something, He enables us to do it.  Furthermore, Os notes, solving problems raises the value of our influence capital.  Our increased favor then increases our ability to serve others more effectively.  As a result, we help build God’s kingdom on earth rather than our own kingdoms.  Mr. Hillman succinctly adds, “Our faith needs to be winsome so that we might win some.”

When we combine genuine, loving faith with problem-solving, that creates a powerful and winsome combination.  Hence, that invites people to learn more about the source of our motivation.  Os exhorts:

“I encourage you, in the face of fear or lack, to be obedient to what God has put in your heart to do, and follow him fully as you take the step of faith that will lead you into the fulfillment of your dreams . . .”

In conclusion, Os encourages us to follow Jesus’ core methods of problem-solving.  Those methods are: extravagant unconditional love, servant leadership, and being let by His Father.  When a problem arises, we need to ask how God wants to use us to solve that problem.
