God wants to intervene in your life

By Dave Henning / June 3, 2018

“Do you believe God wants to intervene in your life. . . ?  I know you probably believe he can do things like this, as in that it is theoretically possible.  I  . . . asked if you thought God does things like this.  Like actually intervenes in direct response to our prayers.”- Brian Jones (emphasis author’s)

“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone?  Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?  If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him?- Matthew 7:9-11

In Chapter 5 (“Supernatural Provision”) of Finding Favor, Brian Jones discusses God’s desire to intervene in your life.  Thus, Pastor Jones declares, Matthew 7:7-8 contains an open, unrestricted promise with no:

  • fine print
  • hesitation
  • qualification
  • ambiguity

“God intervenes, period,” Brian underscores.  As a result, God wants to enter our time-space continuum and alter all aspects of the material universe.  Hence, He intervenes to accomplish His purpose in your life.  Therefore, Pastor Jones stresses, he’s talking about miracles.  However, the author means more than big miracles.  Rather, Brian means miracles involving the everyday details of your life.

In conclusion, Pastor Jones cites theologian D. A. Carson.  Writing in Matthew, Expositor’s Bible Commentary, Mr. Carson argues that one’s understanding of God’s nature is at stake in Matthew 7.  Also, you’ve most likely bitten into your share of rocks.  However, do you truly believe God really intervenes in your life?  Consequently, Mr. Carson states:

“God must not be thought of as . . . a malicious tyrant who takes vicious glee in tricks he plays (v. 9-10), or even as an indulgent grandfather who provides everything requested of him.  He is the heavenly Father, the God of the kingdom, who graciously and willingly bestows the good gifts of the kingdom in answer to prayer.”

Today’s question: In what areas have you asked God to intervene in your life?  Please share.
