Your inner guardian – armed guard protection

“Like an armed guard stationed outside of your heart, your inner guardian has been given the task of protecting you, so it lives on high alert looking for enemies.”- Christa Black Gifford

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.”- Proverbs 4:23 (NLT)

In today’s blog, Christa Black Gifford talks about the second and third primary components within the heart.

2.  The guardian heart.  Since the guardian heart’s purpose involves keeping you safe, it believes beyond all doubt that your pain needs to remain separated from your consciousness.  Otherwise, you’ll find yourself too overwhelmed to keep functioning.  Thus, your guardian heart offers whatever you need to avoid more pain.  Even if that offer runs counter to your core values.

Finally, if your wounded emotional heart stays slashed open, your well-developed guardian heart works to keep you safe from more trauma.  Yet, without a secure connection to Jesus, your guardian heart exhausts itself trying to defend you from additional damage.

3.  The function heart.  The function portion of your heart proudly holds the title of property manager.  Because your function heart proudly protects you throughout life, it’s a powerful, essential part of your daily existence and survival.  So, when this part of your heart stays disconnected with God, you almost always exhibit striving, slaving, performance, and perfectionism.

Furthermore, the sole goal of our function heart consists of moving us forward.  So, disconnected from Jesus, it’s best friend and helper is, Christ observes, a word we know all too well- denial.

In conclusion, Ms., Gifford asserts that “self- hatred, at its core, is simply a product of the parts of our heart at war with one another.”  So when you sign a cease-fire within, that allows your heart to move from constant war into deep rest.

Today’s question: What Bible verses connect your inner guardian to Jesus?  Please share.
