” . . . what you need is a vision from God that captures your imagination and captures your energy. . . . A God-given vision keeps us from decay and disorder. It energizes everything we do. And turning that vision into reality is one way we love God with all our strength.”- Mark Batterson
“Where there is no vision, the people perish.”- Proverbs 29:18 (KJV)
As Mark Batterson concludes Chapter 8 of Primal, he talks about what happens when we get disconnected from God. According to the second law of thermodynamics, or the law of entropy, everything in the universe – left to its own devices – moves toward disorder and decay. And you need to introduce an outside energy source (negentropy) to counteract it.
Thus, to counteract sin, Pastor Batterson encourages, invest your energies in a God-sized vision. Most noteworthy, vision preserves as well as keeps us young, energized, and on the offensive. Mark adds:
“Breaking a sweat for a God-given vision is the key to fulfillment and fruitfulness. It’s also the difference between making a living and making a life.”
In conclusion, the author wonders how many people have a God- sized dream within them, yet fear failing so much they never even try. Because they find it hard to imagine how their God ideas could possibly happen. Since that God idea is beyond reasonableness, they never act on the vision. Mark closes the chapter with these inspiring words:
“Imagine the tears of joy our heavenly Father sheds when we love Him by serving others, when we act on the ideas He inspired, when we break a sweat for a kingdom cause. . . . So don’t just point out problems; be the solution. Don’t just criticize what’s wrong; do something right. Quit living as if the purpose of life is to arrive safely at death. Go after a dream that is destined to fail without divine intervention. Break a sweat.”
