Valley of development – destiny prep

By Dave Henning / February 18, 2021

“The road to your destiny passes through a valley of development.  This is where God prepares you for your destiny and prepares everything and everyone else related to your destiny for you.  Most of us don’t like to think about going through a time of development.  It doesn’t usually make for great stories in the Bible either.”- Dr. Tony Evans

“One day Moses was tending the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian.  He led the flock into the wilderness and came to Sinai, the mountain of God.”- Exodus 3:1 (NLT)

In Chapter 12 (“Development”), the last chapter I cover in Discover Your Destiny, Dr. Tony Evans talks about the forty years Moses spent in the wilderness after he killed the Egyptian and fled Egypt.  Most significantly, during this time Moses developed according to God’s plans in order to fulfill his destiny.  Next. Dr. Evans applies this to us:

“God has a plan to prepare you and lead you to your destiny.  A developmental process must occur so that when you arrive at your bush you are ready for your calling, and just as importantly, your calling and all it entails are right for you.”

However, when Moses killed the Egyptian, he possessed only a vague understanding of his purpose.  Thus, God needed to develop Moses into the person He could use.  Above all, God didn’t change Moses’ purpose.  Rather, He changed the timing.  Therefore, keep holding on to your destiny and purpose.  Unless God changes your desire and burden.

In conclusion, Dr. Evans exhorts:

“Here’s an important clue to developing your destiny.  It will be more than you can even imagine.  What might God want you to do that you know only He can do through you?  If you can’t think of anything like that in your life, you may never see what God can do.  Anything you can do on your own is too small to be God’s destiny.  A small destiny doesn’t require anything beyond your own natural resources.”
