Sheila Walsh concludes Chapter 7 of Holding On as she reflects on the beauty and severe mercy of grace. Certainly, Sheila admits, she never would have signed on to God’s plan for her life. Yet, the author underscores, God’s transformed her as He’s continued to put the missing puzzle pieces of her life in place.
Above all, the Word of God remains steadfast amidst the shifting and changing times. Therefore, we can trust God’s Word, 100 percent. So, whether we find ourselves in a peaceful or difficult place, we need to trust in the God who rescues.
However, Sheila stresses, faith consists of more than trusting God to provide miraculous help in desperate circumstances. Rather, faith denotes daily confidence in God’s help in any situation. Sheila continues:
“It’s not about trusting God for a certain outcome but rather being sure of Christ’s presence no matter the outcome. It’s about resting in the care of the One who loves us and is for us, believing that no matter what happens, God is with us and committed to our good, committed to our rescue.
If you and I, with the help of the Holy Spirit, could grasp hold of this truth, that God can be trusted 100 percent of the time, it would change our lives. If that unchanging truth anchored our lives, even if we’ve been left flapping alone like that little bird under the truck, we would know that we are being held by the God who can be trusted to rescue His people.”
In conclusion, Sheila emphasizes, God’s love story centers on rescue. Yet, God’s rescue doesn’t happen on our schedule, or in the way we choose to script it. But, we trust God for who He is!
