“Enoch and God knew no spiritual distance between them at all. . . . Keep in mind, this was Enoch walking with God and not God walking with Enoch. That’s an important distinction to make, because most people want God to walk with them. They say, This is where I’m going God, and You can join me. But . . . God requires . . . us to walk with Him where He’s going.”- Dr. Tony Evans
“Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.”- Genesis 5:23-24 (NIV)
In Chapter 3 (“Enoch, A Man Who Walked with God”) of Kingdom Heroes, Dr. Tony Evans observes that Enoch walked faithfully with God. Most significantly, how you walk with God serves as an important tool in waking your inner hero. Because when you walk faithfully with God, you stay close to Him. Close enough to receive full access to His wisdom, guidance, and hand on your life.
Hence, to walk with God, Enoch started tracking where God was going. Next, Enoch took the necessary faith steps to join Him. Found in Galatians 5:16, the New Testament phrase for walking with God is to walk in the Spirit. Consequently, Dr. Evans stresses, that denotes an ongoing, progressive decision you make throughout your time on earth.
Furthermore, Dr. Evans explains:
“To walk in the Spirit, or to walk with God by faith, means to walk in an atmosphere of God’s influence and control — an environment where His perspective invades and affects all you do. If God isn’t influencing the steps of your movement except on Sundays and a few other times you allot for Him, you’re not walking in the Spirit. Rather, you’re visiting the Spirit. And visiting the Spirit is not the same as walking in it. Neither will it produce the same results.”
In conclusion, Tony cautions, it’s hard to walk in step with God if you disagree with Him about anything at all. To walk with God, you must first decide you want to go where He’s going. Thus, you welcome His unrestricted presence in your life.
