An inheritance for you: destiny

“God has an inheritance for you that involves your destiny.  He has a purpose and a plan for you to fulfill. But God will not show you your destiny if He can’t get you to first leave where you’re stuck.  As long as you’re hanging out with the world and its values . . . you’re at odds with God.”- Dr. Tony Evans

“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance.  And he went out, not knowing where he was going.  By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs of the same promise.”- Hebrews 11:8-9 (ESV)

In Chapter 5 (“Abraham, a Man Who Willingly Followed God”) of Kingdom Heroes, Dr. Tony Evans discusses three important things about Abraham’s walk of faith. Leaving, living, and looking.  Dr. Evans covers the first one today.

 1.  Why we leave.  Abraham began his journey by leaving, going out, from where he’d lived all his life when God told him to go.  Thus, Abraham left a culture of chaos and a family intent on worshipping false gods.  So, God needed to extract Abraham from that environment.  However, until Abraham first left his homeland, God held off telling him his final destination.

And the same holds true for us.  God asks us to trust Him along the way.  To reach the destiny God intended for him, Abraham needed to leave the worldliness that surrounded him.  We, Dr. Evans exhorts, must do no less.

In conclusion, the author underscores, to hear from God requires that we silence all competing voices.  Even if we once enjoyed them.  Furthermore, that includes living out your destiny as a kingdom hero.  As a result, Dr. Evans counsels:

“Unless a person truly believes God has a destiny for them that is so spectacular, powerful, potent, and purposeful, they’ll stick with marbles. They’ll be satisfied with staying in the circle of a safe and predictable life.”

Today’s question: Do you truly believe God has an inheritance for you?  Please share.
