Obeying Him in the little things?

By Dave Henning / November 16, 2022

“You may be comfortable obeying Him in the little things, but you’ve never risked it all when you’ve been stuck between a rock and a hard place or he has you on the edge of a cliff.  God will show up and do miraculous things in your life if you step out in fah.”- Dr. Tony Evans

“The LORD said to Moses, ‘Why do you cry to me?  Tell the people of Israel to go forward.’ “- Exodus 14:15 (ESV)

Dr. Tony Evans concludes Chapter 10 of Kingdom Heroes with the third and fourth steps of faith for the Israelites.

 3.  Moving forward (eventually).  You pray without ceasing for God to intervene on your behalf.  But it seems like the problem you’re praying against only picks up speed as it pursues you.  Just like the children of Israel in Egypt.  Set free only to find themselves the target of Pharaoh’s increased rage.

So, in Exodus 14:13-14, Moses confidently tells the Israelites to settle down.  God will fix this.  But one verse later, God chastises Moses for crying out to Him.  Perhaps, Dr. Evans posits, the inner Moses failed to match his public persona.  Thus, God exhorts Moses to step out in faith.  Because faith requires footsteps, action.

4.  Obeying God at Jericho.  At Jericho, the Israelites encountered an almost impregnable, fortified walled city.  With walls so high and wide (20 feet) people conducted chariot races on top of them.

Consequently, marching around the walls made little military sense.  However, God wanted the people to see that He alone could deliver them from what seemed undeliverable.  In conclusion, Dr. Evans exhorts:

“When God is ready to move, He can turn things around on a dime. . . .  He can twist what He needs to and transform any situation to fit His intended goals for advancing His kingdom agenda on earth. . . .  When God has your back, it doesn’t matter that it’s against the wall.  Just say the word (or blow the trumpet), and that wall will fall faster than a deck of cards stacked high.”
