The epicenter of your life = God

By Dave Henning / January 22, 2023

“The mistake folks [make] . . . is trying to figure out how to fit a little more of God into their crowded lives.  We need to do the opposite.  Start with God, center your life on him, and work outward from there.  Our spirituality moves from something that is part of our life to the epicenter of our life — from which all other things flow, and to which all other places yield.”- John Eldredge

“[Daniel] prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to God.”- Daniel 6:10 (NLT)

John Eldredge concludes Chapter 9 of Resilient with his thoughts on ways to develop spiritual resilience.  Thus, we read in Daniel 6:10 that Daniel prayed three times a day as part of his normal routine.  And that’s the key.  Because thing that become habitual shape our lives.

Therefore, John believes, it’s a good idea to declare your faith on a daily basis.  For example, the author suggests, recite the Apostle’s Creed every day for five days.  John guarantees doing so brightens your perspective.

In conclusion, John encourages, write yourself a prescription in order that you do not run out of God at the end of things.  For your life of recovery and resilience.  Certainly, you know your strengths and weaknesses.  As a result, figure out what you need to do to take the strength of your soul seriously at this time.  Above all, the author asks, who gets to put a governor on your natural inclinations?  Make sure you turn to Jesus.

Finally, John exhorts:

“The point is this — how are you going to adjust your life for recovery and resilience?  You can’t just slog on, burning everything you have to sustain what you think you ought to be doing. . . .

If you want resilience, you’ll do it.  Survivors are flexible; they adapt to the changing environment around them.  Like being open to the supernatural graces and making them a normal part of life.”
