God’s delight – trivial desire?

“Receiving God’s delight is not a trivial desire; it is paramount.  In fact, our attachment with God is dependent on delight.  We will not attach to someone we believe just tolerates our presence.  Friend, you are not a waste of His time.  He is not dragging you through the world, annoyed with the dead weight.”- Summer Joy Gross

“The LORD your God is in your midst; a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.”- Zephaniah 3:17 (ESV)

Summer Joy Gross concludes Chapter 1 of The Emmanuel Promise with the good news that your attachment style is not set in concrete.  Rather, you travel on a journey to heal an attachment wound.  Because it’s possible for our brains to transform and our attachment wounds to heal.  And that happens through:

  • loving, supportive relationships.
  • learning to live from the secure arms of Divine Love.

Most significantly, Summer describes secure attachment to God as Edenic, what God created us for.   Hence, Summer continues:

“Emmanuel came to draw sons and daughters to His table in a cosmic mission to adopt us into His heart. . . .  This is the first condition to our ability to attach to God. . . .  Until we know God is present, attentive, and turned toward us, we won’t believe He’s available for attachment.  Practicing the truth of Emmanuel’s nearness is primary.”

In addition, Summer underscores that love empowered lives within you.  Above all, in resurrecting impossible stories God finds ecstatic joy.  But don’t rely on your own limited power to riddle this out.  Instead, swing wide your arms as you invite the Holy Spirit to lead your journey.  Then, on a daily basis, place your small hand in His.

For in God’s firm embrace, your nervous system comes to experience what Zephaniah 3:13 describes as “being quieted in God’s love.”

Today’s question: Do you view receiving God’s delight as a trivial desire or a paramount need?  Please share.
