Attentive nature of Christians

“The attentive nature of the follower of God who desires to be led by God is important here.  The New Testament develops this further with the concept of the Spirit-filled life of believers.  We are led by the Spirit, not based on our own ambition but by the vision and direction of God.”- Dr. Joel Muddamalle, Director of Theology and Research, Proverbs 31 Ministries

“People of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more.  How gracious he will be when you cry for help!  As soon as he hears, he will answer you.  Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your eyes you will see them.  Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it.’ “- Isaiah 30:19-21 (NIV)

Lysa TerKeurst concludes Chapter 5 of I Want to Trust You, but I Don’t with comments on Isaiah 30:19-21.  Verses that provide such a comfort to Lysa as she takes baby steps toward trust.

First, Lysa states that the principle of these verses focuses on the truth that God indeed responds to us when we cry out to Him.  Furthermore, the ‘right and left’ Isaiah speaks of refer to staying within the will and command of God.  To do so means that you’re headed in God’s direction.  And you will hear from Him.

Hence, the goal here involves living a life of congruity where one’s life aligns with God’s Word.  In addition, Isaiah addressed the children of Israel during a season of waiting.  A lonely time when one finds it easy to feel defeated.  Above all, Lysa underscores, whenever we wait on God, we wait with God.

Certainly, times exist when we go astray.  However, as long as our hearts willingly receive correction, we rest assured that God will redirect us.  Because He is always near!

Today’s question: What Bible verses spark your attentive nature?  Please share.
