Keep choosing humility

“Keep choosing humility in your heart.  Keep choosing the way of Jesus, his mindset, attitude, and characteristics.  We can do this only in partnership with the Holy Spirit.  We turn to him, and he gives us the discernment, conviction, and power we need.”- Joel Muddamalle

“But when the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth.  He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.”- John 16:13 (NIV)

Joel Muddamalle concludes Chapter 12 of The Hidden Peace as he stresses that, in moments of weakness, we need a Counselor.  The Holy Spirit.  Because the Holy Spirit (a) gives us the gift of humility and (b) empowers us to live a life of humility.

Above all, we desperately need the Holy Spirit in order to live out humble obedience in the way of Jesus.  Through the Spirit’s presence, He informs and guides us on a daily basis.  Consequently, we need to access the Holy Spirit every day.  Just as putting on clothes functions as a daily ritual and rhythm of life.  Hence, Joel counsels, it’s not a one-and-done act.

In addition, we must do this with intention.  In fact, we must make it our goal to be intentional about doing it throughout the day.  Hence, Joel suggests ‘midday adjustments’ as a part of the daily practice of humility.  Certainly, Joel exhorts, spend time in the morning preparing your heart in God’s Word.  But also touch base with the Spirit throughout the day.

In conclusion, Joel encourages:

“Every moment you accept truth from the Holy Spirit and align with him, more humility and strength is deposited in your soul.  Over time, it changes you. . . .  How powerful and stabilizing would it feel to be certain that, regardless of any situation you walk into (positive or negative), you are connected to him, his love, and his resources?”

Today’s question: What Scriptures help you to keep choosing humility and keep choosing the way of Jesus?  Please share.
