“I’m not encouraging you to speak your own words to yourself, but to speak God’s word over your life. Now that is something that works. You will be taking your thoughts captive and replacing lies with God’s truth. . . . God’s words are like seeds that get planted, seeds that always bear fruit. And that’s what we want to do — start planting the seeds of God’s words in our minds and in our lives.”- Kyle Idleman
“And the rain and snow come down from heaven, and do not return without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish. . . so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”- Isaiah 25:10-11 (NIV)
As Kyle Idleman concludes Chapter 11 of Every Thought Captive, he talks about how a lie believed as truth affects your life. It affects your life as if that lie were true. Above all, when you believe the lie and tell it to yourself, that action gives the lie power over you. Hence, it’s imperative that we capture those words we so carelessly say to ourselves. And replace them with the truth.
Therefore, if we compare words to seeds, whatever seeds we plant determines the fruit we eat. So, perhaps we’ve been speaking poisonous words of death over our lives and eating its fruit. Thus, Kyle exhorts, it’s time to speak God’s words to ourselves. As a result, those seeds bear fruit that changes our lives in the best possible way.
In conclusion, Pastor Idleman encourages:
“God brought life to a place of death, and he will do the same for us. He will speak light into our darkness. His word is more powerful than any other word — any word that has been spoken to us or that we’ve said to ourselves. His word will override all of that if we believe his word and if we say it — again and again — to ourselves. Do it, and watch what God does.”
