A perfect fit

“How good it is to sing praises to our Lord, how pleasant and fitting to praise him.” -Psalm 147:1

In Chapter 8 of Walking with God through Pain and Suffering, Timothy Keller states that since the ultimate purpose of life is to glorify God, “that means that the first- but perhaps hardest to grasp- purpose for our suffering is the glory of God.”  Additionally, the author notes, a surprising number of Bible passages link the words suffering and glory.

Pastor Keller then cites C. S. Lewis, who reasoned in his book Reflections on the Psalms that God commands us to glorify Him because it is only through glorifying God that we’ll truly find the rest, satisfaction, and joy that we were created for.  Pastor Keller goes on the explain why it is fitting to praise the Lord:

“It fits to glorify God- it not only fits reality, because God is infinitely and supremely praiseworthy, but it fits us as nothing else does.  All the beauty we have looked for in art or faces or places- and all the love we have looked for in the arms of other people, is only fully present in God himself.”

Today’s question: How have you been intentional in finding ways to glorify God in the midst of your ministry downsizing or vocation loss?  Please share.
