Mark Batterson concludes Chapter 6 of Wild Goose Chase as he asserts that God’s far more concerned with who you’re becoming than where you’re going. Furthermore, Pastor Batterson contends, some people want to know the will of God more than they desire to know God. And that choice short-circuits spiritual growth. Because you must have the heart of God in order to do the will of God.
However, it often takes time for God-given dreams to become reality. As a result, the author notes three valuable lessons God taught him about the wait.
1. The longer the wait, the more you appreciate. When we don’t have to work for or wait for thing, it’s easy to take them for granted. But, Mark stresses, “hard work doubles as gratitude insurance.”
2. Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is just hang in there. Therefore, when you feel like giving up or giving in, press on. Hang in there just a little longer. For divine delays build emotional and spiritual endurance.
3. A sense of humor can get you through just about anything. Even if you lose everything else, hang on to your sense of humor. A sense of humor gets you through just about anything.
Finally, Pastor Batterson presents two options when your circumstances displease you: (1) complain about them or (2) make the most of them. But, your choice goes beyond making the most of your circumstances. You also must realize that God’s present in your circumstances. After all, He specializes in shipwrecks and snakebites!
