In Chapter 10 (“Stage 3: Isolation”) of The Joseph Calling, Os Hillman talks about how God isolates His leaders to turn their messes into messages. Thus, Mr. Hillman defines the isolation stage as “a time when we become isolated and often experience deep feelings of loneliness and abandonment.”
Consequently, if we’re not careful at this stage, this time is fraught with danger to our psyche. In an effort to cope, we can fall prey to many kinds of sin. However, allowing God to enter that time with us creates a fruitful season.
As a result, the third stage of the Joseph calling often requires a complete break between your old life and the new one. For example, the apostle Paul spent three years in Arabia considering the changes taking place in his heart. Also, Paul developed a profound knowledge of and relationship with Jesus. Paul’s life changed dramatically.
Yet, Os observes what happens when we get a dramatic word from God. It’s tempting to desire immediate fulfillment of that message rather than wait for God to fulfill it in His timing. And, in truth, you never know when God’s going to choose to raise you to a place of influence.
