I’d rather have one God idea than a thousand good ideas. Good ideas are good, but God ideas change the course of history. How do you get God ideas? Prayer is a good place to start. Praying is a form of dreaming and dreaming is a form of praying. When you get a God ideas, you’ve got to take it captive.”- Mark Batterson
“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every though to make it obedient to God.”- 2 Corinthians 10:5 (NIV)
In his introduction to Part Three (“Imagine Unborn Tomorrows”) of Win the Day, Mark Batterson notes that we tend to interpret 2 Corinthians 10:5 in negative terms. Certainly, half the battle involves taking sinful thoughts captive and making them obedient to Christ. But, Pastor Batterson exhorts, when you get a God idea, you also must take it captive.
For Pierre L’Enfant, he took his idea captive with a blueprint of Washington, DC. What L’Enfant conceived in his imagination, he transferred to a twenty-ounce piece of paper. Today L’Enfant’s plan sits enshrined in a Plexiglas case, breathing pressurized argon at the Library of Congress.
Hence, Mark notes, whatever you do, you must imagine unborn tomorrows. Although we live our lives forward, God works in our lives backward. In other words, God’s setting you up. Above all, when God gives a vision, He supplies provision.
In conclusion, Mark stresses, we only know the four dimensions of space-time. As a result, it’s hard for us to conceive of God in any other way. Thus, we create God in our image and make Him four-dimensional. Therefore, Mark explains:
“So while we think forward, God is working backward. It’s a bit of a mind bender, but God always begins with the end in mind. That’s the key when it comes to imagining unborn tomorrows. . . . God’s vision for your life is bigger and better than yours. Do you believe that? Show me the size of your dream, and I’ll show you the size of your God.”
