A stress cycle – playing out

By Dave Henning / June 24, 2023

“Allowing a stress cycle to play out . . . is a little like taking a windup toy, twisting the know, and then giving it the space it needs to unwind.  We have to make room so that all the energy doesn’t remain inside unused.  Amazingly, when we have the support we need, our body intuitively knows what to do to heal.”- Aundi Kolber

“There is no place so awake and alive as the edge of becoming.”- Sue Monk Kidd

In Chapter 8 (“Strength with Moving Through”) of Strong Like Water, Aundi Kolber stresses that God designed our bodies to move through experiences.  If we’re able.

Consequently, Aundi observes, several things occur when we fully process and move stress through our bodies.

 1.  The completion communicates to our body that the situation has ended.  After a disturbing experience, with intention look for cues of safety that help you return to your window of tolerance.  In so doing, your body systems designed to metabolize difficulty activate.  Thus, they fully ‘digest’ the experience, sensation, or emotion.

 2.  The experience can now be stored in our long-term memory.  In this key step, you save the experience correctly.  As a result, the neural network opens to reflection, learning, and support.

3.  We intuitively begin to make meaning of the experience.  Above all, we root this meaning in the most accurate version of reality.  Because we’re back in our window of tolerance, we more precisely process what is actually happening.  This serves as a prime signal that the cycle has been completed.

Most significantly, Aundi notes, this births our most expansive strength.  Our brain functions in its most adaptive state.  Therefore, Aundi likens moving the energy through our body to being in a snow globe as the flakes fall to the bottom.  Rather than a shaken snow globe where the falling flakes limit our vision.
