Our ultimate security

By Dave Henning / April 24, 2024

“Our ultimate security rests wholly and completely on who God is.  He is why we’re okay.  He is also why we can be broken and doubt and fear and cry.  We think God is waiting for us to pull ourselves together, but actually He is waiting for us to come to Him and fall apart.  The more I do this, the more I heal.”- Jennifer Allen (bolding author’s)

“Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being, and in secret you will make wisdom known to me.”- Psalm 51:6 (NASB)

As Jennifer Allen moves on in Chapter 6 of Untangle Your Emotions, she observes that Satan fosters a chaotic and emotional landscape.  As a result, we tend to shut down.  Because everything feels too big and too hard, we feel ill-equipped.

Certainly, Moses felt that way when God, through the burning bush, called Moses to obey Him in a big way.  Most significantly, God didn’t comfort Moses in his fear and confusion.  Instead, He comforts Moses by reminding him of who He is: I AM WHO I AM (Exodus 3:14).

In addition, Jennifer stresses, God wants wisdom and truth to extend beyond your brain, heart, and body.  He desires that wisdom and truth penetrate your innermost being.  Because that heals your soul to the depth of who you are as well as why you’re here.

Hence, Jennifer exhorts:

“God built us mind, body, and soul.  He wrapped us in flesh and set us here at this time and in this space, and the mystery of what we feel and how we experience it all points to a God who not only built our emotions but felt every last one of them too (bolding author’s).

In conclusion, the author counsels, feel every feeling and take each feeling straight to Scripture and Jesus.  Consequently, every feeling ought to prompt you to ask God, “What should I do?”

Today’s question: What Bible verses help us to find our ultimate security in God?  Please share.
