Susie Larson opens Chapter 3 (“Dare to Pray with Endurance”) of Your Powerful Prayers with a quote on perspective by A. W. Tozer. In The Knowledge of the Holy, Mr. Tozer wrote:
“With the goodness of God to desire our highest welfare, the wisdom of God to plan it, and the power of God to achieve it, what do we lack? Surely we are the most favored of all creatures.”
However, in the midst of adversity, often our skewed perspective causes us to create issues. Thus, our heartaches and unfulfilled heart’s desires keep us thinking small. And any short-term solutions we devise always fall woefully short of God’s redemptive plan. Furthermore, those short-term solutions usually cause us more trouble than we bargained for.
Consequently, as Ms. Larson points out, our heartbreak mirrors a greater desire in God’s heart. Susie explains:
” . . . my heartbreak and your heartbreak, they’re meant to inspire passionate prayers in and through us because God is working in ALL things together for His purposes. God invites us to lift our chins, to look to Him, and seek the greater purpose in our suffering. You know why? Because we can be absolutely assured that God has a greater, grander purpose in motion than we can ever fathom or imagine. . . . In the midst of our not-yet seasons and times of heartbreak and disappointment, we must remember there are aspects of our story that are significant to the greater story God is writing on earth today (emphasis Ms. Larson’s).”
