“Without a vision of what’s available to us sitting at His feet in the hidden place, we become restless . . . itching to climb out of the hidden place.”- Sara Hagerty
As Sara Hagerty concludes Chapter 7 of Unseen, she asserts that we practice and cultivate our craving for God on earth. Therefore, it’s not a waste of time to sit at Jesus’ fee, enjoying Him. Rather, this practice provides strength training for heaven.
Furthermore, our hiddenness transforms us from dutiful workers to lovers of God. In The Return of the Prodigal Son, author Henri Nouwen expresses this thought is his unique way. Henri writes:
“The farther I run away from the place where God dwells, the less I am able to hear the voice that calls me the Beloved, and the less I hear that voice, the more entangled I become in the manipulations and power games of the world.”
As a result, Ms. Hagerty suggests, we scout our days for stories that make our existence worth it. We’re ever watchful for, Sara opines, “new ways to infuse our otherwise mundane lives with measurable impact.”
However, it’s possible for our mundane hours to outweigh the one this-make-it-all-worth-it moment we desperately seek. That happens when we meet Jesus and pour ourselves out at His feet.
In addition, we need a vision for what’s available to us when we sit at Jesus’ feet in the hidden place. Otherwise we get restless. We itch to climb out of that hidden place. And we seek thrills, thus missing the biggest thrill.
Most importantly, every single moment’s available for wasting ourselves at Jesus’ feet. Sara explains:
“To reach the dwelling place, to see and know Him there, we need to allow for the quiet, the questions. We need to learn into, and not away from, what can come out of the aching hiddenness with God. . . . the place where we’ve been hidden from the crowd is where God’s whisper becomes a life-changing brush with His love.”
