Letting your life speak

By Dave Henning / March 24, 2012

John Ortberg (If You Want to Walk on Water. . .) quotes Quaker educator and writer Parker Palmer on the subject of discerning God’s calling in your life: “You cannot choose you calling.  You must let your life speak.”  Listening is an essential skill to enable us to follow our calling.  John Ortberg adds, “It will take care and courage to discover and be true to the person God  made you to be.  Over time, your heart will seek to make its longings known.”

I first felt called to Lutheran teaching when I was only 9 years old.  Yet God utilized my downsizing to revision/transform that calling into the formation of Crown of Compassion Ministries, and through that process sharpening my writing and relationship skills to reach an entirely different audience.
