“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be enough room to contain it.”- Malachi 3:10 (NIV)
Dr. Charles Stanley begins Chapter 2 (“Unlimited Supply”) of Can You Still Trust God? with two questions:
- Do you believe there is a need that might be outside God’s ability to meet it?
- In your heart of hearts, do you believe God’s going to supply only 80 percent of your needs, or perhaps 90 percent, or even 99 percent?
Or, Dr. Stanley wonders, do you believe you’ve used up all of God’s allotted portion of blessings? In other words, that your current need falls just beyond God’s storeroom of supply. Consequently, we need to trust God to meet all our needs. Not some, not just a high percentage. In addition, Dr. Stanley underscores, we should trust God to the point that we find it impossible to contain all the blessing God pours out on us. Above all, Dr. Stanley stresses:
“God does not meet our needs according to our resources — the talents we have, the gifts we offer, the numbers we have associated with our bank account or investment portfolio. No, God meets our needs according to His resources.”
In conclusion, Dr. Stanley notes, no parent gives a child just one taste of an ice cream cone and then denies that child a second taste. Similarly, our heavenly Father never gives us just one taste of His goodness. His blessings overflow!
