Identity truths in our hearts

By Dave Henning / December 22, 2023

“The best way to get these identity truths into our hearts is to replace our warped mirrors and beliefs with the truth of God’s Word.  Most of us carry plenty of misbeliefs about our own value, forgetting how much God sacrificed for our redemption and freedom.”- Chip Ingram

“We’ll never find our Father exasperated by our weakness.  We’ll always find that our Abba pours His glory and His strength into those places we’d rather hide.”- Susie Larson

“And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.”- 2 Corinthians 9:8 (ESV)

In Chapter 5 (“God Lavishes Grace: You Can’t Earn What You Need Most”) of Closer Than Your Next Breath, Susie Larson counsels against taking your cues from your own perspective of yourself.  Because in doing so you’ll never fulfill all of God’s highest purposes for you.  So, keep your eyes on God.  He fills you, gives you joy, and empowers you to do everything He’s created you to accomplish.

Hence, Susie underscores, it makes all the difference when you fix you gaze.  Above all, it’s a profound privilege that we:

  • get to serve Him with the gifts He entrusts to us.
  • enter His presence with boldness and thanksgiving, knowing that He’s elated to see us — an unmerited gift of grace.

In conclusion, Susie comments on how grace enables us to see God as He really is.  She writes:

“There’ll be moments when His awesomeness drops you to your knees and you see Him in a way that makes you tremble.  There’ll be other times when He moves in close, right where you’re in the middle of a self-berating thought.  He’ll lift your chin, breathe life into your weary soul, and remind you to take your cues from Him.  Could we be more blessed?”

Today’s question: What Bible verses most help to place identity truths in your heart?  Please share.
